South Holyoke Sewer Separation Work is Continuing

South Canal St to be closed at Main St and Sargeant St from Tue March 30th thru Fri April 2nd

Effective Tuesday, March 30th through Fri April 2nd South Canal St from Main Street to Sargeant St will be closed to thru-traffic. Local traffic only will be allowed. At nighttime South Canal Street will be reopened to eastbound traffic and westbound traffic will be detoured at Sargeant St to Main St as shown on the attached figure. This shutdown/detour is needed to allow Ludlow Construction to continue installing new sewer piping in South Canal St.

S. Canal Detour

During the next phase of work, scheduled to begin on Monday, April 5th, the daytime shutdown will continue and the nighttime detour will be shifted to Cabot St. The entrance to South Canal St at Cabot St will be closed and westbound traffic will be redirected to Main St. This shutdown/detour is expected to continue through Friday, April 16th while the new pipeline is being installed.

This much-needed project is being completed by Ludlow Construction as part of the City’s ongoing Jackson Street Area Sewer Separation Project. This $10 million EPA-mandated project involves the separation of storm drains and sewer lines through the South Holyoke area. These improvements will extend the life of the City’s utilities in this area and reduce the discharge of combined sewage to the Connecticut River during significant rainfall events
