Since the public engagement meetings in late February/early March 2024, the following work has been done by the consultants together with MassDOT in advancing the project:

  1. Completed Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) Stage 1 process – April
  2. Posted Public Meeting Survey Results- mid-May
  3. Met with Holyoke Bike & Ped Committee –early June
  4. Met with PVTA  –early June
  5. Met with High Street Business Association  –early June
  6. Reviewed and analyzed crash data for all 33 project intersections
  7. Developed preliminary design concepts

Next and near-term steps:

  1. October/November-Share preliminary design concepts with City Officials

    -Meet with City Officials to review preliminary concepts, receive feedback, and discuss next public presentation

  2. December/January-Potential public engagement meeting to present preliminary design concepts and get further public feedback
  3. December-Potential Road Safety Audit (RSA)
  4. Ongoing-Traffic analysis and conceptual design refinement

    -Coordination with City on development of a preferred conceptual design and public presentation to present final design (exact timeline TBD)

NOTE: this is a heavy lift project and will take time before we see actual construction phase which can happen 3 to 4 years from now.

The proposed project consists of transportation safety and mobility improvements along the entire length of High Street and Maple Street corridors from South Street to Lyman Street in Downtown Holyoke.
