Lyman Street Bridge to be Reopened to Traffic on Friday November 5th

Posted on November 3, 2021

MassDOT

After over 2 years of construction by MassDOT and their contractor New England Infrastructure, the City of Holyoke is pleased to announce that the Lyman Street Bridge over the 1st Level Canal will be reopened to traffic on Friday, November 5th. Construction will continue through November so there will still be traffic delays in the area at times.

NOTE – There will be one important change to vehicle access to the Gatehouse Road area off Lyman Street. Truck restrictions will return to what had been in place before construction started. Large vehicles and trucks traveling to the Gatehouse Road area will need to travel southeast on Lyman Street and cross over the new bridge. There will not be large truck access through the Canal Street and Lyman Street intersection due to height restriction at the railroad bridge. The temporary lane established at the intersection during construction will no longer be open to large vehicles but will remain open to smaller vehicles.

Other project related detours will remain in place for the next few weeks. A notice will be provided later this month when traffic flow is expected to be fully returned to normal.
