Hazard Mitigation and Climate Adaptation Plan
Hazard mitigation planning reduces loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters. It begins with state, tribal and local governments identifying natural disaster risks and vulnerabilities that are common in their area. After identifying these risks, they develop long-term strategies for protecting people and property from similar events. Mitigation plans are key to breaking the cycle of disaster damage and reconstruction.
The City of Holyoke is taking steps to reduce damage and losses from hazards such as floods, wind storms, and heat waves. A draft Hazard Mitigation and Climate Adaptation Plan is available for review below. A public information meeting will be held on March 26, 2025 at the Holyoke Public Library in the Community Room from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to present highlights from the plan. Light refreshments will be offered. Please provide comments by March 28, 2025.
