Terence Murphy
Mayor Terence Murphy grew up in South Holyoke, and graduated from Holyoke High in 1966. He then graduated from Holyoke Community College in 1968, and received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Stonehill College in 1970. In 1994, he earned a master’s degree in public administration from American International College.
Murphy was first elected as an at-large alderman in 1975, and served terms from 1976-1980, 1982-1984, 1988-1992. In 2019, he was appointed by the City Council to fill an open ward 2 council seat, and was reelected in 2019.
At the April 12, 2021 meeting of the city council, he was selected to serve as Acting Mayor. He served in that role until the new mayor was sworn in on November 15, 2021.
He has also been active coaching in a variety of roles, including at HCC, Holyoke Catholic High School, and Dean Technical High School.
