Comprehensive Plan Update

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, under MGL Ch 41 Sec. 81D, requires cities and towns to maintain a comprehensive plan for their long-term physical development. Through comprehensive plans, cities and towns envision aspirational futures for themselves and identify implementation pathways for achieving them. These plans span all aspects of physical development--- from the types of housing we have in our community, to how we get around, to our resilience to climate change, and more.

Holyoke hasn’t updated its comprehensive plan since 1999. A lot has changed since then and fresh ideas are needed. The 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update will refresh Holyoke’s vision for its future.

How can I get involved?

This website will serve as the central location for information about the Comprehensive Plan. Bookmark it and check back often. You are invited to take the survey, subscribe to the newsletter, and follow the project on social media.

Look for an outreach team at your favorite community event. Teams will be at Noche de San Juan, Fiestas Patronales, the Great Brick Race, and many more events. They’ll also be holding neighborhood conversations in all seven wards and community-wide listening sessions. See the calendar below for details.

Where can I access more information?

Information like presentations, flyers, and reports will be posted here. Check back often to download the latest information about the Comprehensive Plan.
